Juliana Marton was born and raised in the quaint town of Norwich, Vermont. She studied at the University of Vermont for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. From a young age, she was intrigued and drawn into the realm of birth. Childbirth became a passionate area of focus throughout her undergraduate career. During three of these four years, Juliana had the opportunity to study with Dr. Robbie Pfeufer Kahn, who became an inspiring mentor and advocate for her path to become a homebirth midwife. Juliana’s mother is also an inspiring mentor, for she passed down many stories of childbirth and the postpartum from her years of experience as a mother, Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse, and International Board Certified Lactation Counselor. Juliana entered the professional realm of childbirth in 2008 when she became a DONA trained Birth Doula. When Juliana began to support women through the childbearing year, she knew she would be a homebirth midwife.
In 2010, Juliana began homebirth midwifery apprenticeship with the Certified Professional Midwives of Salisbury Natural Family Health. Now, Juliana works with Peggy Cohen of Full Spectrum Midwiferyas an assistant Midwife. Juliana has supported over 150 women and families in both the home, birth center, and hospital settings. In November of 2012, Juliana nearly 3 months in Bali, Indonesia, serving as an assistant midwife under the supervision of CNN Hero Ibu Robin Lim, CPM, Balinese Bidans, and Erin Ryan, CPM of Yayasan Bumi Sehat. Juliana plans to take her Certified Professional Midwife exams in the fall of 2013.
During the past four years, Juliana deepened her interests within pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum through experience supporting under-served populations of women, survivors of sexual trauma, and women recovering from substance abuse. Additionally, Juliana completed childbirth education training and certified lactation counseling training. Juliana has experience supporting mothers of multiples postpartum and overnight postpartum.
